Math - Unit 4 Family Resource

Hi Wonderful Second Grade Families,

We are starting Unit 4 in math. Here is some information about the unit.

Unit 4 Family Resource

In unit 4, students will work with numbers up to 1,000 to further extend their understanding of place value and the relationship between the values of the different places within a number. Students will also represent three-digit numbers with concrete models, pictures, numbers, and words. They will record three-digit numbers in standard form, written form, and expanded form. Students will compare three-digit numbers using >, =, and < symbols. They will also count to 1,000, including skip counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s.

The students will apply their knowledge of identifying and knowing the value of coins by solving word problems involving quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. Students will count mixed sets of currency up to $1 by counting on using skip-counting strategies.

Finally, the students will work with equal groups of objects to gain a foundation for multiplication. The focus will be to connect multiplication to repeated addition. Students will construct sets of equal groups using concrete manipulatives and use repeated addition to find the number of objects in the set.

Here are a few websites that the students can visit to practice the skills taught in this unit.
