Hi Wonderful Second Grade Families,
It has been a wonderful start to the school year. The students have been working hard in the classroom. Rules and routines have been established and we are learning many new skills.

Here is some information about the classroom:
In Language Arts, we have been reading informational texts and working on four reading strategies. The students have been making predictions, asking questions, and clarifying their thinking. Next week, we will practice summarizing the text.
In Writing, the students are writing small moment stories. The students have selected a topic and are working to draft the beginning, middle, and end of their story. We will revise our stories to add more detail to describe the events and the thoughts and feelings of the characters.
In Math, we are starting Unit 2. During this unit, the students will be solving one- and two-step word problems involving addition and subtraction within 100. Students will use addition and subtraction strategies based on place value. Students will also determine if a group of objects has an odd or even number of members by pairing objects or counting them by 2's and writing an equation to express an even number as a sum of two equal addends.
